Retail sales rose 0.4% in April, the seventh consecutive monthly increase, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The increase followed a revised 2.1% gain in March that was larger than originally reported.

Economists had forecast sales would rise 0.2%, Bloomberg reported.

Almost all trucking operations depend on the health of retail sales because such sales involve nearly every type of cargo.
