P.S.I. Adds Real-Time Visibility for Wheel-End Temperatures
ORLANDO, Fla. — Pressure Systems International has introduced Digital ThermAlert, a sensor that provides fleets and drivers with real-time visibility on trailer wheel-end temperatures.
The product is available for trailers equipped with P.S.I.’s automatic tire-inflation system.
The new sensor adds telematics capabilities to P.S.I.’s existing ThermAlert wheel-end heat detection system, which uses an indicator light to alert drivers to elevated wheel-end temperatures that could cause damage, wheel loss or a trailer fire if not addressed.
P.S.I., a business unit of Clarience Technologies, made the announcement during a Feb. 26 press conference here at the Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition.
P.S.I. said the real-time reporting from Digital ThermAlert can help trucking operations determine normal wheel-end operating temperatures on their trailers. The data also enables fleets to analyze wheel-end history and proactively identify maintenance problems such as a dragging brake or bearing issue.
“It provides all of the benefits of traditional ThermAlert but it really gives you full visibility of your wheel-end temperatures in real time,” said Craig Smith, P.S.I.’s marketing manager.
Digital ThermAlert delivers wheel-end temperature data through P.S.I.’s TireView Live tire management portal or through integrations with telematics systems such as Road Ready from Clarience.
In other news, P.S.I. announced a mobile app for TireView Live. The app will enable users to access tire-related data through their Apple and Android devices.
P.S.I. also highlighted its 30th year in business at the press conference. The San Antonio, Texas-based company first introduced its automatic tire-inflation system in 1993, a moment Smith described as “the creation of an industry.”
“It’s estimated that about 70% of all new trailers built in North America are specified with automatic tire inflation,” he said. “This is a resounding validation of both the value it provides and fleets needing solutions for improved tire management.”
P.S.I. was acquired by Clarience Technologies in July 2022. Southfield, Mich.-based Clarience also is the parent company of Road Ready telematics, Truck-Lite vehicle lighting, Davco diesel fuel filtration, Ecco safety and lighting systems and several other transportation technology brands.
