Peterbilt has launched a new truck model, the 387, with two configurations aimed at the regional and long-haul markets.

Peterbilt describes the 387, which replaces the 377A/E, as a “premium, on-highway aerodynamic conventional truck” that it hopes will appeal to fleet operators and owner-operators.

Todd Acker, manager of public relations, said the 387 represents a more viable product to compete in the “aero” market, which accounts for about 65% of the Class 8 market. In 1998, Peterbilt commanded about 9% of the Class 8 vehicle sales, putting it in fifth place among the seven major truck manufacturers.
