xecutives at mobile communications company PeopleNet said they have upgraded a software package that will make it easier for trucking companies and drivers to comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s revised hours-of-service rules.

The system, known as Pacos, will allow fleets to build “geofences” as a way to improve management of drivers’ schedules, said John Sarto, PeopleNet’s chief executive officer. Geofencing refers to software that sets an electronic barrier for monitoring a vehicle’s progress along its route, with a goal of reducing out-of-route miles.

“This software will make it easier for dispatchers to track drivers’ compliance with [HOS] by focusing on exception-based reporting instead of being overwhelmed with data,” Sarto said.
