PCS Software recently released several new artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities for its transportation management system to help motor carriers optimize dispatch and identify better load opportunities.

The new software modules, embedded in the PCS TMS and powered by the company’s proprietary Cortex AI engine, include Dispatch Manager, Load Opportunity Manager and Backhaul Booster.

Load Opportunity Manager automatically ingests freight opportunities from emails, documents and electronic data interchange and then scores them based on profitability.

From there, Dispatch Manager analyzes real-time data on drivers, assets and lanes to recommend or automate load assignments.

For the return leg, Backhaul Booster searches the network for profitable reloads to cut down on empty miles.

Cortex also automatically generates shipper emails and can place AI voice calls to secure loads.

PCS said the AI modules are designed to help fleets enhance profit margins by preventing missed opportunities, eliminating deadhead and reducing manual work.

“In this market, the fleets that survive will be the ones that create new margin, not just chase volume,” PCS CEO Mark Hill said. “Cortex makes that possible by embedding profit points into everyday decisions.”

PCS customer Royal Logistics, a motor carrier based in Fargo, N.D., reported significant time savings from utilizing the new features.

“Running 100 trucks with a lean team means every minute counts,” said Kaleb Groce, director of operations. “Cortex turned dispatch from one of our most time-consuming bottlenecks into a smooth workflow. One-click assignments and automated driver recommendations have cut hours of manual work out of our week.”
