The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an appeals court decision upholding the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s authority to operate a cross-border pilot program allowing Mexican drivers to operate throughout the United States.

In a petition filed with the high court, OOIDA said Mexican drivers should not be allowed to travel beyond the U.S. commercial trade zone without a U.S.-issued commercial driverÌý license.

The appeal was lodged in response to the federal appeals court ruling in July saying the cross-border program could continue after OOIDA and the Teamsters brought the lawsuit because they said Mexican drivers lacked the qualifications to be in the program.
