BOSTON — Members of the National Tank Truck Carriers installed new officers and presented two major safety awards on April 28, the last day of the group’s annual conference and exhibits.
Harold Sumerford Jr., CEO of J&M Tank Lines in Birmingham, Alabama, is the organization’s new chairman, replacing Dean Kaplan, CEO of K-Limited Carrier of Toledo, Ohio.
Sumerford’s late father, Harold Sr., was NTTC chairman for 2002-03.
Kaplan is now chairman of the executive committee. He replaces James Shaeffer of McKenzie Tank Lines, now the chairman of the nominating committee.
The new first vice-chairman is Brian Wood, president of TransWood Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska.
Two carriers won the group’s Outstanding Safety Performance Awards, for which they will receive the Heil Trailer International Trophies: Tidewater Transit Co. of Kinston, North Carolina, for the large carrier division; and Wynne Transport Service, also of Omaha, for small carriers.
