New Emission-Test Program Nearly Ready, EMA Says

he Engine Manufacturers Association said a new emissions-testing program for heavy-duty diesel vehicles is nearing completion and will become mandatory for all engine manufacturers next year.

EMA said the program will provide manufacturers a way to prove their engine emissions are within Environmental Protection Agency specifications throughout the life of a vehicle.

鈥淭ogether with the cleaner engines scheduled for introduction with the 2007 model year, the in-use testing program . . . will help assure that high emissions levels from diesel trucks and buses are truly a thing of the past,鈥 Jed Mandel, EMA president, said in a statement earlier this month.
