September container traffic rose 7.3% at the Port of Long Beach, California, from the same month last year, marking the busiest September since 2007, the port鈥檚 peak year.

Cargo numbers climbed largely due to the importation of products for the holiday shopping season, the port said Oct. 21.

Loaded inbound 20-foot equivalent units jumped 10.2% to 339,343 from a year ago, while exports fell 12.1% to 118,412 TEUs.

Empty container moves, which are typically repositioned overseas to be refilled with goods, rose 19.1% to 172,016 TEUs, the port said Oct. 21.
