An index of leading economic indicators rose 0.2% in January, the New York-based Conference Board said Thursday.

The rise followed a 0.5% rise in December. The January gain matched economists forecast, Bloomberg News reported.

The LEI is closely watched by trucking companies because it forecasts business activity for the next three to six months.
