Ron Konezny, a co-founder of PeopleNet and an executive at its parent company, Trimble Navigation Ltd., is leaving the firm later this month to become CEO of Digi International Inc.

Konezny became vice president of Trimble鈥檚 global transportation and logistics business after it purchased PeopleNet, a provider of onboard computers, in 2011.

Since then, he has guided the division as it has rapidly expanded in the North American trucking technology market through other major acquisitions, including TMW Systems and ALK Technologies.

Digi credited Konezny, 46, with achieving an 鈥渙utstanding track record of consistent, profitable revenue growth鈥 at Trimble鈥檚 transportation and logistics division, which has nearly 1,500 employees and more than 2 million remotely managed assets.

Konezny will succeed Joseph Dunsmore, who is retiring, as Digi鈥檚 CEO on Dec. 17.

Digi is a supplier of wireless technology to a variety of industries. The company is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, which is also home to PeopleNet鈥檚 headquarters.

鈥淚 am excited to join the Digi team and lead the company forward in the wireless [machine-to-machine] and Internet of Things marketplace,鈥 Konezny said in Digi鈥檚 announcement.

Trimble said joining Digi was a 鈥済reat opportunity鈥 for Konezny and his family.

Jim Veneziano has assumed Konezny鈥檚 role and responsibilities at Trimble, the company said.

Veneziano is vice president of Trimble鈥檚 Mobile Solutions segment, which includes the transportation and logistics division. He has been with Trimble since 1990 and has held a variety of executive-level management roles at the company.

鈥淎s the founder and past president of PeopleNet and vice president of Trimble鈥檚 Transportation and Logistics Division for the last three years, Ron was instrumental in building the PeopleNet and Trimble organizations as leaders in fleet mobility technology for the land transportation industry,鈥 Veneziano said in a statement. 鈥淥n behalf of Trimble, we wish Ron success in his new role.鈥
