Heartland’s 2Q Profit Rises 35%

Truckload carrier Heartland Express said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 35.3% from a year ago on higher freight demand, while citing concerns over tight driver availability and rising fuel prices.

Net income rose to $22.5 million, or 25 cents per share, from $16.7Ìýmillion, or 18 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 7.7%Ìýto $137.2 million.

The company said it took delivery of 200 ProStar Plus International trucks and 1,098 Great Dane and Wabash National trailers in the quarter.

Heartland Express is ranked No. 45 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire trucking companies.
