Portland, Ore.-based Freightliner claims it holds 17% to 20% of the owner-operator market. Paccar Inc. () stablemates Peterbilt and Kenworth, generally considered the most popular trucks with owner-operators, claim about 45% of that segment.

Freightliner unveiled its long-nosed, chrome-accented model at the Great American Trucking Show, held Nov. 16-18 in Dallas.

At 132 inches from the bumper to the back of cab, it is one of the longest of the 鈥渃onventional鈥 power units 鈥 those with a squared-off front. Owner-operators tend to prefer these models to the short, curving, aerodynamic hoods seen on many new trucks.
