Feds Propose New Fuel-Economy Labels

Federal regulators for the first time in more than 30 years are proposing a redesign of the fuel economy label that consumers see on the window of new passenger vehicnd light trucks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency are considering two new designs to help motorists. One would give vehicles an overall grade, while another would give a more detailed version of the current label.

The agencies said the redesign is needed to provide consumers with a straightforward comparison across all vehicles types.
