The decline followed a revised 2.1% jump in July that was lower than the 2.4% upturn originally reported.

Economists had projected no change in factory orders, Bloomberg reported.

Capital goods orders excluding aircraft and military orders, a measure of future business investment, rose 0.9%, the largest gain inÌýthree months.
