EPA Certifies ’07 Diesel Engines as Dealers Await Clues on Sales
Manufacturers of new heavy-duty engines designed to meet Environmental Protection Agency emission regulations that went into effect Jan. 1 said EPA has certified all engine models submitted for approval.
Now, truck makers and dealers are waiting to see whether customers will buy trucks with the new engines, after record sales in 2006 and predictions of a sharp drop in 2007 because of the higher costs and untested technology of the new units.Manufacturers last week either refused to comment or said it was far too early to see any sales trend.
