Heavy trucks are being temporarily banned from thousands of miles of secondary roads across northern New England with the early arrival of spring, the Associated Press reported Monday.

The mild weather promofficials to restrict heavy traffic on secondary roads two to four weeks earlier than usual in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, AP said.

States post signs poles along roadways warning heavy trucks to stay off, prompting businesses to heavy deliveries until the road beds dry out, AP reported.

In the meantime, trucking companies can lighten their loads, or ask the state for exemptions for such work as delivering milk or picking up trash, AP said.
