DOT Urges More Mexican Truckers to Participate in Cross-Border Program

U.S. Department of Transportation officials have urged more Mexican carriers to apply for the cross-border trucking progrhe San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

DOT officials said at a Friday meeting in Tijuana, Mexico, near the Otay Mesa, Calif., border crossing that more enrollment by Mexican truckers was critical to the program’s success, the paper reported.

To date, just 21 Mexican companies have sought to join the program, the Union-Tribune reported, citing Marcelo Perez, a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration official. FMCSA is part of DOT.
