Diesel Rises 1.3¢ to $2.805; Gas Falls to Just Over $3
Diesel fuel’s national average retail price rose 1.3 cents $2.805 a gallon, while gasoline fell 6.7 cents but remained just over $3, the Department of Energy said Monday.
The diesel uptick was the first increase in three weeks and just the third gain in the past nine, according to DOE figures. It dipped 0.7 cent last week and 1.8 cents two weeks ago.
Gasoline, meanwhile, fell to $3.009, and the price has fallen 20.9 cents over the past four weeks from an all-time record high of $3.218 set on May 21.
Gas is 84.4 cents higher than the year’s low of $2.165, set on Jan. 29.
Diesel is now 11 cents below a year ago and 7.2 cents below this year’s high of $2.877, set on April 16.
Trucking’s primary fuel is now 39.2 cents over the 2007 low of $2.413, also set on Jan. 29.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
