Diesel Dips 3.3 Cents to $2.43; Gasoline Falls to $2.165
The average price of retail diesel fuel fell 3.3 cents to $2.43 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.
The diesel decline was the sixth straight downturn and fllowed last week's 7.4-cent drop, DOE said. Over the past six weeks trucking's main fuel has fallen 19.1 cents.Regular gasoline also fell, DOE reported, dipping 6.4 cents to $2.165 a gallon. It was the fourth straight drop for gasoline, which has fallen by 17.6 cents since Christmas.Diesel is now 4.2 cents below the same week last year, while gasoline is 17.1 cents below this time last year.Meanwhile, crude oil prices continued to fall Monday, declining 88 cents to $51.11 on the New York Mercantile Exchange after rising earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported.Each week, DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
