Demand for Cleaner Engines Seen Growing
Upturn Seen Tied to Carbon-Trading Trend
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — An official with the Chicago Climate Exchange said the demand for cleaner engines and alternative fuels in the United States will increase as membership in its cap-and-trade emission trading system expands.
The for-profit exchange calls itself the world’s first — and North America’s only — voluntary, legally binding greenhouse gas reduction and trading system.Thomas Cushing, vice president of business development for the exchange, said its creation in 2003 signified “the dawning of a new age” in cutting greenhouse gases by “using the power of the markets to address global warming.”For the full story, see the Feb. 26 print edition of Transport Topics.
