DDC Heavy-Duty Engines in Production, Freightliner Says
First ’07 Engine-Equipped Trucks to Be Delivered This Month
Freightliner LLC said it that its Detroit Diesel Corp. unit has begun production of 2007-year heavy-duty Series 60 engine that meets required Environmental Protection Agency standards.
“These engines pass the ‘white handkerchief test’ where a white hanky placed over the exhaust pipes of the running truck shows there is no soot or odor emitted,” said Tim Tindall, DDC’s director of sales.Effective Dec. 29, DDC’s plant in Redford, Michigan began building engines for some of Freightliner’s largest customers, the company said.The first 2007 emission-certified engines will be installed in vehicles at Freightliner’s Cleveland, N.C., Portland, Ore., and St. Thomas, Ontario truck plants beginning Monday, with initial customer deliveries planned before the end of January, Freightliner said.Freightliner and DDC are units of DaimlerChrysler.
