Daimler’s 2Q North American Sales, Orders Rise
Daimler AG said Wednesday its second-quarter North American truck sales and orders rose from the same period last year.
North American Free Trade Agreement regional unit sales rose 1% from a year ago to almost 35,000 units. U.S. unit sales, part of the Nafta region, gained 6% to just over 30,000.
Nafta retail sales rose 21% year-over-year to almost 36,000, with orders jumping 42%. U.S. retail sales rose 24% to almost 30,600, with orders rising 41% to about 27,000 units.
Total worldwide truck unit sales were up 1% from a year ago to almost 124,000 units, Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler said.
Daimler, which reports its earnings in euros, said its worldwide truck unit’s earnings before interest and taxes fell 17% to about $573 million. Revenue slipped 2% to about $10.6 billion.
Daimler Trucks makes Freightliner and Western Star brand trucks in North America as well as Detroit brand engines, transmissions and axles.
