Cooper Tire Takes 2Q Loss

Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. said Monday it posted a second-quarter loss of $22 million, or 38 cents a share, compared with earning $17.6 million, or 28 cents, a year ago.

It was the company’s first quarterly loss in two years, Bloomberg reported. Cooper said expenses for production cutbacks totaled $13 million and that raw materials price increases reduced earnings by $51 million.

Revenue rose 5.9% to $773 million, the company said in a statement.

Cooper makes tires for light and medium trucks. The company also provides tread rubber and other equipment for the retread industry.
