Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) has signed into law a measure that makes the state the 40th to protect truckers from contracts that force them to assume total liability for accidents whether they are at fault.

The anti-indemnification bill passed the House on Feb. 12 by 41-23 and passed the Senate on March 5 before being sent to the governor, who signed the measure March 24.

Colorado truckers have tried for nearly a decade to secure such protection.
