Truckload carrier Celadon Group said it paid $24 million to acquire the truckload, intermodal and brokerage businesses of Continental Express.

The deal includes 430 of Continental’s tractors and 1,100 trailers.

“We believe Continental has quality customers and drivers, but suffered from a cost structure that plagues many mid-sized carriers,” said Stephen Russell, Celadon’s chief executive officer.
