	Schneider National says it will start charging $200 per day for shippers who keep their their bright orange trailers too long.

TORONTO — Shippers that plan to hoard trailers for storage or excess capacity during the year-end holiday season and Y2K computer rollover could get an extra bill from their carriers.

Several trucking companies have said they will impose detention charges on shippers that tie up their trailers during the countdown to the millennium. Those charges could run $150 to $300 per trailer per day.

Donald Schneider, president of Schneider National, one of the largest truckload operations in the country, said his company would penalize shippers $200 per day for each unit held over the normal time.

Most of the carriers are asking for 24-hour turnaround cycles on their trailers.
