The California Air Resources Board’s deadline for food transporters with model-year 2003 transport refrigeration units to install retrofits is March 31, the agency said.

By that date, owners of diesel-powered TRUs with engines from 2003 in the state must install technology to comply with the lomission TRU standard, CARB said on its website.

CARB had previously ruled that TRU owners would have to install stricter ultra-low-emission technology by Dec. 31, 2010. To save fleets money, CARB relaxed the regulation in November to its low-emission standard and extended the deadline to March 31.

Fleets face a $1,000 penalty per unit for not complying, CARB said.
