Buttigieg to Speak Before House Transportation Panel March 25
Senior Reporter
Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is scheduled to appear before the U.S. House transportation panel March 25.
Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) announced that Buttigieg will update lawmakers on the Biden administration鈥檚 infrastructure policy agenda.
Buttigieg鈥檚 input is likely to influence aspects of Congress鈥 consideration of a highway policy reauthorization measure. DeFazio has signaled the potential for debating that bill sometime in May. The measure would update the country鈥檚 premier highway law, the FAST Act, which expires in September.
鈥淭he time to go big and bold on our nation鈥檚 crumbling infrastructure has arrived, and I鈥檓 ready to turn our conversations with Secretary Buttigieg, as well as President [Joe] Biden and Vice President [Kamala] Harris, into action to finally bring our infrastructure out of the Eisenhower era,鈥 said DeFazio. 鈥淭o that end, I encourage Secretary Buttigieg to eat his Wheaties [cereal] next Thursday [March 25] morning.鈥
Buttigieg continues to promote Biden鈥檚 calls for ensuring the severe weather resilience of freight and passenger corridors around the country. The secretary also has been highlighting various merits pertaining to achieving equity, accessibility and sustainability throughout mobility grids. The White House is expected to reveal details of Biden鈥檚 鈥淏uild Back Better鈥 infrastructure plan sometime this spring.
