LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There are those who would say that becomin first new entrant in a market that has been either stable or shrinking for the past 70 years seems foolish.

Bering Truck is hoping its cabover design will please truck buyers and not rile drivers.
William R. Anderson Jr. is not among them.
His Bering Truck Corp. opened its doors in April 1997, some seven decades after Kenworth, the next youngest company, entered the truck-producing market. Since its inception, the newest manufacturer has been offering trucks in light- and medium-duty ranges, built under contract by Hyundai in Chunju, South Korea.
In September, Bering will move up in class and begin building Class 7 and 8 trucks at its new, 210,000-square-foot assembly plant in Front Royal, Va. The plans were unveiled during the Mid-America Trucking Show, held here March 23 to 25 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
