ATA Wins EPA SmartWay Award for Fifth Straight Year
American Trucking Associations has been honored for a sixth time, five of them consecutively,听with a SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award听from the Environmental Protection Agency.
鈥淓PA commends the Affiliate Challenge honorees for their extraordinary level of commitment, enthusiasm and creativity in supporting EPA鈥檚 SmartWay program, and sustainable transportation,鈥 said Christopher Grundler, director of EPA鈥檚 Office of Transportation and Air Quality. 鈥淭he work in this arena helps to advance the environmental sustainability of commercial transportation and logistics bringing us all closer to achieving the shared goals of efficient goods movement and clean air.鈥
ATA previously won the SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Award in 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
鈥淔or nearly a decade, ATA has been proud to work with the EPA in what we believe is a model for the public and private sectors cooperating to address a significant challenge,鈥 ATA President Bill Graves said. 鈥淭he effort of industry and government working together to reduce fuel use and emissions is commendable and we look forward to many more years of fruitful partnership with EPA.鈥
Glen Kedzie, ATA鈥檚 energy and environment affairs counsel, is a former EPA attorney.
鈥淪martWay partners, including many ATA members, have saved nearly $25 billion in fuel costs and more than 170 million barrels of oil and eliminated 73 million metric tons of carbon emissions, 1.5 million tons of NOx and 72,000 tons of particulate matter,鈥 Kedzie said.
