AASHTO Hands Out Awards for Service
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials honored several individuals with awards for their outstanding service at the organization鈥檚 annual meeting.
Carlos Braceras, former AASHTO president and Utah DOT executive director, received the George S. Bartlett Award given jointly by AASHTO, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and the Transportation Research Board in recognition of an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to highway progress. Braceras has been the Utah DOT executive director since 2013 and previously served as the state鈥檚 deputy director.
鈥淭hese award recipients represent a wide range of backgrounds and expertise,鈥 said Jim Tymon, AASHTO executive director. 鈥淏ut the one thing all these winners have in common is a commitment to bringing new ideas to life in the transportation field through hard work, ingenuity and perseverance.鈥

Tony Allen, geotechnical engineer for Washington, was awarded the Thomas H. MacDonald Award, recognizing his outstanding service and exceptional contribution to the art and science of highway engineering. Allen has served as WSDOT鈥檚 state geotechnical engineer for 28 of the 38 years he has been at the agency鈥檚 geotechnical office.
Ohio DOT State Bridge Engineer, Tim Keller, received the Alfred E. Johnson Achievement Award, which recognizes an outstanding contribution in highway engineering or management. Keller provides training, expert guidance, and technical assistance to each of Ohio DOT鈥檚 12 districts.
Frederick 鈥淏ud鈥 Wright, transportation policy consultant and former executive director of AASHTO from 2013-2019, received the President鈥檚 Special Award of Merit. Wright was recognized for his extensive contributions to the association over his more than 30 years at the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO.
