PALMETTO, Fla. — The owners of World Direct Shipping have announced a bold initiative to send imported manufactured goods from SeaPort Manatee to the Northeast via a proposed CSX rail connection.

The Ever Forward, a 1,095-foot cargo carrier with more than 4,000 full shipping containers, is the largest ship to have ever run aground in the Chesapeake Bay, and freeing it is an arduous and cumbersome process. The first attempt to refloat the ship will begin at noon March 29.

The U.S. Postal Service announced March 24 it ordered more than 10,000 new electric delivery trucks, up from the 5,000 the agency had initially planned to purchase.
