Components maker ArvinMeritor Inc. said Tuesday it lost $94 million or $1.34 per share for its fiscal second quarter, compared with earning $45 million or 65 cents a year ago.

Commercial vehicle component maker Accuride Corp. said Monday it lost $1.9 million or 5 cents a share in the first quarter, compared with a profit of $20 million or 58 cents a year ago.

Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. earned $143 million or $1.42 a share in the first quarter, up from $135 million or $1.35 a year earlier.

Ryder System said Wednesday its first-quarter profit rose 8% to $51.3 million or 84 cents a share, from $47.6 million or 77 cents a year ago.

The collapse in heavy-duty U.S. truck sales accelerated in March, dropping nearly 38% from the same month in 2006.

Vehicle parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. said Monday that its first-quarter net earnings were $234 million or $1.56 a share, up from $208 million or $1.36 a year ago.

Employees of a distributor for diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. went back to work Monday after ending a week-long strike, the Associated Press reported.

At least five major tire manufacturers said they are raising prices on their medium- and heavy-duty truck tires by 3% to 5%, with most citing the rising cost of raw materials as the reason.
