Trimble Navigation Ltd. reported higher third-quarter profit than a year ago and said earnings nearly doubled at its segment that includes trucking technology providers PeopleNet Communications Corp., TMW Systems Inc. and ALK Technologies Inc.

New York state’s registration and decal fee for out-of-state trucks are “unconstitutional highway taxes,” the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association alleged in a class-action lawsuit filed with the state’s supreme court last week.
