img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>SAN FRANCISCO — Transportation companies and freight shippers may face a wave of problems as ripple effects spread from the labor dispute between longshoremen and West Coast port operators, logistics and trucking professionals said.

Representatives from trucking, freight forwarding, manufacturing and finance companies, meeting for the Council of Logistics Management conference here Sept. 29-Oct. 2, told Transport Topics they immediately began implementing contingency plans to reroute shipments after 29 West Coast ports locked out workers and shut down.

Executives here said they were caught in the middle, with shippers trying to get their loads moved while carriers tried to plan how best to allocate their trucks.
