The used truck market, especially for trucks with sleeper cabs, has become a buyers’ market. Most major carriers turn in their sleeper trucks every three to five years, so the sheer amount of sleepers on the market vastly outnumbers the individuals looking for a quality used sleeper truck. Dealerships struggle to unload what they have, and carriers battle to get what value they can on the over-the-road trucks they trade in.

“There simply isn’t a demand for used sleeper trucks, so there is definitely a challenge in moving them,” Lynn Fanning, a salesman at International Truck and Engine in Denver, says.

But there is still a demand for day cabs, or local trucks — and this demand has resulted in another way of selling sleeper cabs. A kit has been developed that allows for the conversion of a sleeper cab into a day cab.
