Senate Confirms Christopher Hart, Tho Dinh-Zarr for NTSB Spots
The Senate on March 12 easily confirmed Christopher Hart to be the full-time chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Hart, confirmed 97-0, most recently was听the board鈥檚 acting chairman. He succeeds Deborah Hersman, who stepped down in April to run the National Safety Council, an Illinois-based nonprofit.
During his confirmation process, Hart told lawmakers he would focus on raising awareness about highway safety and dangers associated with distracted driving. Since 2009, he has听served as the board鈥檚 vice chairman.
From 2005 to 2009, he was the deputy director听of air traffic safety oversight from 2005 to 2009 at the Federal Aviation Administration and also the assistant administrator for system safety at FAA from 1995 to 2005.听Hart earned degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
The Senate also gave voice-vote approval听to Tho Dinh-Zarr鈥檚 confirmation to be an NTSB member. She is a director of the FIA Foundation, a global road safety philanthropy.
