The increase followed a revised 1.2% upturn in August that was higher than the originally reported 0.9% gain and the biggest gain since October 2010. The September rise topped economists’ median forecast of a 0.8% increase, Bloomberg reported. Purchases excluding automobiles rose 1.1%, Commerce said. Almost all trucking operations depend on the health of retail sales because such sales involve nearly every type of cargo.
