BANFF, Alberta — Refrigerated carriers laid out the battle plans for getting truckers in and out of the loading docks without the interminable delays that rankle drivers and sap carrier productivity and revenue.

	Receivers are being asked to use lumpers, extend dock hours and adopt reverse logistics programs to reduce loading delays.

A study by Mercer Management Consulting released at the annual meeting of the Refrigerated Division of the Truckload Carriers Association details what steps carriers, shippers and receivers should take to reduce waiting time.

TCA has been studying the issue for over a year and hopes the best practices Mercer developed are the concrete steps that will aid in solving the delays. Now, shippers just have to use it.

“We’ve heard shippers and receivers agree with us about the problems but say they don’t know how to fix them,” said Richard E. Durst, president of Arctic Express in Hilliard, Ohio, and chairman of TCA’s dock delay panel.
