Stellantis NV, which owns the Jeep and Ram brands, has canceled plans to bring its all-electric pickup truck to market, the latest product shake-up after competitors’ models failed to meet expectations and Congress moved to eliminate tax credits for EV buyers.

Antonio Filosa, who took the helm of the French-Italian-American auto conglomerate this year, is dialing back his predecessor’s ambitious EV sales targets and prioritizing hybrids and gas-powered vehicles, seeking to stop a multiyear sales decline in North America, a key profit engine for the company.

The CEO also is taking advantage of the Trump administration’s push to roll back emissions standards that imposed major costs from penalties and credits in previous years.

“As demand for full-size battery electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,” the company said in a Sept. 12 statement.

The all-electric truck, dubbed the Ram REV pickup, had already been postponed twice as former CEO Carlos Tavares struggled to pull off multiple EV launches.

Stellantis said it will still prioritize the launch of its extended-range electric truck, which is expected to come out in 2026. The truck will get a new name though, now being called the Ram 1500 REV (instead of its previous moniker, the Ramcharger).

Extended-range vehicles can be plugged in like a conventional EV, but have an on-board gas generator to boost range and towing capacity. Stellantis has said the truck will have as many as 690 miles of range and about 660 horsepower.
