The Professional Truck Driver Institute of America’s Certification Commissionntly certified 12 truck driver training schools and recertified one other under the organization’s revised curriculum standards.

PTDIA President Lana Batts said 250 people from six stakeholder groups — including driver training schools, motor carriers, insurance companies and government bodies — made a numbe of adjustments to skill standards, curriculum guidelines and certification procedures.

As the base for its curriculum, the institute uses the Federal Highway Administration’s “Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers,” which was judged to be best for entry-level drivers.

nder an industry initiative, PTDIA was formed in 1986 as a nonprofit organization to “advance truck driver proficiency, safety and professionalism to the highest possible standards,” according to the mission statement. The Truckload Carriers Assn. took over management of the institute in July 1996.

TDIA recertified Lehigh County Vocational/Technical School in Schnecksville, Pa.
