Prime Inc. plans to spend more than $160 million building a regional hub for the southeastern U.S. near Griffin, Ga., the state’s governor, Brian Kemp, announced April 14.

The 161,000-square-foot facility will be built in several phases, with the first scheduled to be ready for operations in the final quarter of 2027, a spokesman for the Springfield, Mo.-based told Transport Topics via email. Initial construction is expected to begin in the second or third quarter of 2026, he added. The primary purpose of the facility will be to serve the needs of Prime’s longhaul drivers.

Prime’s largest existing regional hubs are located in its hometown of Springfield; Pittston, Pa.; and Salt Lake City, the spokesman added. The carrier has other smaller hubs too. Prime did not, however, have a full-service terminal in the Southeast, the spokesman said.

The Georgia facility will create more than 120 full-time jobs and support the addition of more than 50 professional drivers, according to Kemp’s office.

The company will focus initial hiring on mechanics, drivers and facility maintenance, the governor’s office added.

“Spalding County’s strategic proximity to many of our top customers enhances our ability to deliver exceptional service while also being conveniently located for the benefit of our fleet of professional drivers. This new terminal strengthens our commitment to support growth of our associates’ careers while meeting the needs of our customers across the nation,” said Robert Low, CEO and founder of Prime.

The most recent real estate expansion for Prime came in 2022 with the construction of the Minooka, Ill., site, which included maintenance facilities, 118 tractor-trailer parking spaces and a tank wash specifically for the carrier’s tanker division.

Prime, which operates more than 9,600 trucks and 13,800 trailers, offers refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, hopper, intermodal and logistics services.

The carrier ranks No. 19 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire fleets in North America and No. 1 among refrigerated truckload and less-than-truckload players.
