ORLANDO, Fla. – The concept of one diesel fuel for the entire country received an endorsement from members of an American Trucking Associations panel.

Though it did not specify a national standard for the composition of diesel fuel, the Environmental Policy Committee called for a study on technical aspects to establish the nationwide sulfur level for diesel as well as on how to avoid potential equipment problems and higher costs for the fuel.

The issue of one diesel has been around since 1990 when the Environmental Protection Agency lowered sulfur levels nationwide and California subsequently began requiring an even cleaner-burning fuel.

The federal agency’s requirements resulted in diesel fuel shortages, and trucking claimed the reduced-sulfur fuel ruined some engines.
