Obama Sets Policy to Protect Global Supply Chain
President Obama said for the first time that the United States has a national security interest to protect the nation鈥檚 economic goods against terrorists, criminals and natural disasters everywhere in the world, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.
The new policy, being unveiled Wednesday by 91视频land Security Secretary Janet Napolitano at the Word Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, is called the 鈥淣ational Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security,鈥 AP said, citing White House documents.
鈥淭he global supply chain provides the food, medicine, energy and products that support our way of life,鈥 the document said.
鈥淲e have seen that disruptions to supply chains caused by natural disasters . . . and from criminal and terrorist networks [that] can adversely impact global economic growth and productivity,鈥 Obama wrote in the document.
鈥淎s a nation, we must address the challenges posed by these threats and strengthen our national and international policies accordingly,鈥 it said.
In his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, the president said he has sent Congress legislation 鈥渢hat will secure our country from the growing dangers of cyber-threats.鈥
