Navistar, UAW Reach Four-Year Labor Agreement
Navistar International Corp. and UAW announced Feb. 9 that the truck maker鈥檚 UAW-represented workers ratified a new four-year labor agreement. It replaces the contract that expired Oct. 1.
鈥淭he new contract will help our UAW-represented facilities embrace lean principles, which will allow them to remain competitive in today鈥檚 business environment,鈥 Navistar CEO Troy Clarke said. 鈥淭he contract also helps our UAW-represented employees and retirees maintain a good standard of living.鈥
UAW 鈥 formally known as the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America 鈥 represents about 1,500 employees at Navistar鈥檚 engineering and engine assembly plant in Melrose Park, Illinois; its truck assembly plant in Springfield, Ohio; and its parts distribution centers in Atlanta, Dallas and York, Pennsylvania.
鈥淯AW members have approved a contract that is fair and equitable for both them and company,鈥 said UAW Vice President Norwood Jewell, head of the union鈥檚 heavy truck department.
鈥淲ith this new contract, our members may continue serving our customers in the heavy-truck industry while maintaining good jobs and benefits that will allow them to support their family and community,鈥 Jewell said in a statement with Navistar.
