MIT Offers New Online Supply Chain Management Program

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced a pilot program that allows students to combine online courses with a single semester on campus to earn a master’s degree in supply chain management.

The school also announced that it would offer a new academic credential, called MicroMaster, to anyone who completes a semester’s worth of online courses.

Yossi Sheffi, professor of engineering and a director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, said the changes are designed to open the SCM program to more learners in an effort to alleviate a worldwide talent shortage in the field.

MicroMaster will have no admissions requirements, and coursework will be available for free, school officials said. The first class begins in February.
