A convoy of trucks — toy trucks — will be arriving at homes in the San Diego area after American Trucking Associations completes its annual Management Conference and Exhibition.

ATA and Transportation.com are collaborating with the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots initiative to launch a program called Transportation for Tots.

Organizers of the charity event are asking everyone attending the ATA conference, which takes place Oct. 29-Nov. 1, to bring a toy truck, or some other toy, that will be donated to needy children.

Jim Ritchie, president of Transportation.com, said his company picked Toys for Tots as the beneficiary of the industry’s charitable efforts because he wanted to give something back to the communities hosting these kind of events — especially the children in those communities.
