GSC Logistics Plans to Add Truck Drivers
GSC Logistics plans to bring in 100 additional drivers by the summer to transport cargo containers, the company announced March 31.
The new drivers are going to be tasked with expedited cargo diversions from congested ports to customers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Pacific Northwest.
GSC said more freight haulers are needed to manage a surge in Asia and U.S. cargo volumes.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been in business for more than 30 years and the pace of growth is like nothing we鈥檝e ever seen,鈥 GSC Logistics founder and CEO Scott Taylor said in a statement. 鈥淲e鈥檙e taking some pretty dramatic steps to keep ahead of the demand.鈥
GSC said its truck driver pool will be growing by nearly 30%. The company also plans to add 15 other positions to support client service, driver dispatch and information technology. Its aim is to quickly retrieve containers from West Coast ports overwhelmed by imports.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been coordinating closely with customers to ensure that expedited delivery requirements are prioritized and executed while there are many others who lack the visibility as they are waiting numerous days for their cargo,鈥 GSC Logistics President Dave Arsenault said in a statement. 鈥淭he infrastructure and resource investments that we鈥檙e making are essential to maintain trade flow.鈥
GSC said its growth plans include expanding to 250 total truck drivers in Oakland, Calif., and 100 in Seattle. It also involves doubling freight yard capacity in Oakland from 15 to 29 acres and acquiring an additional 400 new chassis. 鈥 Transport Topics
