FMCSA Speaks Against Mandatory Fuel Surcharge

he head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said the agency opposed a congressional measure that would require shippers to pay a fuel surcharge to truckload carriers.

In testimony prepared for delivery to a Senate subcommittee, FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg joined a chorus of trucking and shipper groups opposing the surcharge language, which was included as part of the six-year highway reauthorization bill the House of Representatives approved on March 10.
